What is the distinction “dominance” or “dominating” and how is it distinct from “influence”?

  • Matheus Pessoa

For me, Dominance is more related to the person that is doing the ''domination'': someone having dominance over someone else, consciously or not. And Influence is the other way around: someone being influenced by me, conciously or not. For example: Jesus has some influence over the society today, a BIG influence, but he is dead. But dominance would be Jesus dominating his disciples (pretty difficult to imagine hahah).
In this case, the difficulty for me is not seeing dominance as negative.
Love to hear your thoughts, thanks Gaurav.

    Gaurav,
I was trying to shoot a video for you on this topic today and realized that I don't know why you are asking the question. Can you tell me what brought up this question for you? Why are you considering it? What exactly do you want to know about? That could help me bring more clarity with my answer.
    Thank you,
    Brendan

This question came up because i want to transform my relationship with my thoughts, feelings, emotions, imaginative worlds, frameworks(mental) that i create in my subjective world. i suspect that i operate at the influence or dominance of my created subjective world, so i wanted to start with getting clear on what is dominance? and what is influence?(to maybe get a clear working definition), what would be the conditions that allow each of them?, what are the components of each of those? what is the context in which these activities occur(i dont fully know what im asking with this question, but since i imagine dominance and influence occur in chimps and other animals, so its not restricted to the domain of mind )?, i would also like to know about what "submission" and "being influenced" are at the opposite ends, to get a what this is about as a whole.
i want to move towards freeing myself from being at the affect/being dominated/influenced by my conceptual world, for eg like being driven by "obscure forces" of the subjective world i guess.

i also wanted to understand the distinction between dominance and influence, since i suspected vaguely that they are different ways of controling of an event or a person. but im not sure.

please let me know if you want me to elaborate further.
      thank you.
      Gaurav.
